For deep-tech companies, internationalization often begins before the domestic model is complete because the required customers, suppliers, infrastructure and regulators are distributed across countries. This makes “expansion” the wrong mental model. The company is assembling a cross-border production system from the outset. The danger is accumulating geographic complexity without learning which location serves which strategic function. A strong international roadmap should specify not only target markets, but where validation, manufacturing, financing, IP and commercial authority belong.
