Fragmentation is usually presented as Southeast Asia’s weakness, but it can also function as a demanding design environment. A company that learns to operate across different regulations, income levels, languages and infrastructure constraints may develop more adaptable products than one optimized for a single large market. The challenge is preventing modularity from becoming operational dispersion. Regional ventures still need a clear centre of gravity: where the IP sits, where decisions are made and which market provides the first repeatable economic model.
